Greg Morgan

Greg has been playing the cornet/trumpet since 1973 joining the Solent Concert band as a beginner. Over the years he continued to play with the band in the championship section.
Performing with the band on BBC radio two’s ‘Friday Night is Music Night; and ‘Listen to the band’. On his 15th birthday he joined the staff band of the Territorial Army, later studying for his bandmaster’s course with Lt. Col Trevor Sharpe. At the age of 19 The British Association of symphonic wind bands awarded Greg a conducting scholarship with Lt. Col. Sir Vivian Dunn. He later studied conducting under Richard Evans as part of a National Association of Brass Band conductor’s course. After entering the London College of Music 1990 Greg studied trumpet, composition, and conducting.
In the same year he became an Associate of the London College of Music. Continuing his studies under Dr. Martin Ellerby he gained a Fellowship in composition and a Fellowship by dissertation. Greg has been teaching since 1992 and has also been awarded a Licentiate of Trinity College of Music in music education. In the year 2000 he was awarded a Batchelor of Arts Honours degree in music and History. Over the last forty five years Greg played in Solent Concert band, Hampshire and Dorset Band of the Territorial Army, Havant Symphony Orchestra, Hampshire Police Band, Dave Pearson Big Band, Maury Dean Big Band, Gosport Solent Band and for the last 11 years the Royal Marines Association Concert Band. He has also been the musical director of Liss Band, Verwood Concert Band and is currently musical director of the H.M.S. Nelson Volunteer Band.
